Inaugural Festival, 2010: New York-Berlin
Our narrative is the course of jazz into Harlem, its inspiration of mainstream audiences, and journey across the Atlantic to Germany, where it excited creative minds in the 1920s Weimar Republic.
This will be a multi-faceted festival, with an orchestral and jazz-band performance at one end and a production of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's Threepenny Opera. It incorporates an exhibition at the internationally-renowned Neue Galerie, and recitals by Hunter College faculty and guest artists. The programs feature Hunter students, in musical, theatrical and academic settings, as well as critically acclaimed performers and composers.
